EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE

 

1993-present, Associate Professor of Counseling:

Full-time graduate faculty in the Department of Educational Leadership at Western Kentucky University. Teaches counseling courses with special emphasis in school counseling, mental health counseling, and marriage and family therapy. Supervises internship students in a variety of therapeutic settings. Conducts research in the educational and mental health issues of children and adolescents.

 

ADDITIONAL TEACHING EXPERIENCE

 

1991-1993, Adjunct Professor of Counseling:

Adjunct graduate faculty in the Department of Educational Leadership at Western Kentucky University. Taught classes in Russell Springs and Columbia, KY.

 

1991-1993, Adjunct Professor of Counseling:

Adjunct faculty in the undergraduate Human Services Department at Lindsey-Wilson, Columbia, KY. Courses included Organization of Human Services and Psychology.

 

1984-1987, Adjunct Professor of Counseling:

Adjunct faculty in the undergraduate/graduate program in Ministry at Southern Christian University, Montgomery, AL. Taught counseling classes in theory, crisis counseling, and marriage and family therapy for ministers in an off campus setting.

                             

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

 

1990-1993, Director of the IMPACT Program:

Director of the IMPACT Program for the Adanta Group Behavioral Services, Inc., of Somerset, KY. In this capacity organized and implemented a comprehensive case management program for staff of 10 full-time and 35 part-time IMPACT workers who served over 100 children in South-central Kentucky. Wrote grants to secure funding for an Intensive Inhome Therapy Program and a three year CASSP sponsored Parent Advocacy Program.

 

1989-1990, Director of Outpatient Services:

Director of the Charter Counseling Center of Greenwood, SC. Center provided a wide range of outpatient mental health services. Coordinated Employee Assistance Program with local businesses and corporations. Conducted various seminars on relevant mental health issues as stress management, parenting skills, co-dependency and substance abuse.

 

1987-1989, Emergency Services Mental Health Counselor:

Emergency response counselor for the Aiken, SC Mental Health Center. Responded to crisis situations involving the severe mental illness, drug overdose, suicide attempt, etc. Settings included emergency rooms and county jail.


 

1986-1989, Consultant to the Hospice:

Provided consultation to the St. Joseph Hospice, Augusta, GA in family dynamics and grief therapy. Conducted inservice to Hospice staff in the psycho-social aspects of caring for the terminally ill.

 

1983-1989, Family Therapist:

Provided marriage and family therapy as counseling minister in a church setting in North Augusta, SC. Services included individual, family and group therapy, and educational activities.

 

1971-1983, Guidance Counselor:

Guidance counselor for the Great Onyx Job Corps Center, Mammoth Cave, KY. Provided individual, group counseling and guidance services for students in a residential training program.

 

1968-1971, Peace Corps Volunteer:

As a Peace Corps Volunteer to the Fiji Islands, served as an elementary school teacher in a rural setting. Established a school library with books donated from individuals in the United States.

1993-2000, Have received five annual grants of $60,000+ each year from the Kentucky Justice Cabinet to develop and teach course curriculum for Group Methods and Group Practicum for group counselors in Department of Juvenile Justice treatment facilities.
