Current Courses Offered
Geography 110 - World Regional Geography

World Regional Geography has become a standard general education course in many colleges and universities due to the importance of producing geographically literate college graduates. This course is an introduction to geographical concepts as they apply to the world's regions. During the semester we will conduct a general survey of the political, social, economic, physical, and ecological systems of the world while applying the five main themes of geography: Location, Place, Human Environment Interaction, Movement, and Regions.

Students
will be involved in a three part learning process. 1)
Cartographic
Traditions – students will learn the principles and theories of
thematic
map design, including projection, scale, accuracy and symbolization
strategies.
Students will also develop skills of map reading and interpretation. 2)
The Design Process – Students will learn the fundamentals of
cartographic
perception, design methods, and the applications necessary for them to
confidently design their own maps. 3) Technical Skills –
Students
will be introduced to and become competent with ArcGIS 8.3 and
CorelDraw.
Together these skills should enhance a student’s ability to recognize
good
map design, create well-designed and well-executed maps, and be able to
interact with others who design and produce maps.
