Catalog course description
Math 118 College Algebra and Trigonometry is a 5 credit hour course at WKU.
Official Prerequisite for the on campus section:
(1) three years of high school mathematics from the pre-college curriculum, including Advanced Integrated Math 1, 2, and 3, or two years of algebra and geometry, and either:
a) an algebra score of at least 16 on the Math Placement test and
b) a Math ACT score of at least 22 and a GPA of at least 3.0 in high school mathematics.
(2) Math 100 with a A,
Prerequisite for students interested in the web based section:
Permission of instructor.
Since most students interested in the web based course are non-traditional students we need to be flexible in the prerequisite.
1. If you have a Math ACT score it should be 22 or higher. Students who are no on campus will not have a Math Placement test score.
2. You need to have your own computer, and you need to be computer literate enough to load programs, send/receive attachments via email.

The WKU catalog describes Math 118 as follows: Real number system, algebraic manipulations, and solutions of equations and inequalities, absolute value, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometry, systems of equations, complex numbers.
We will cover all of those topics with an emphasis on applications to the real world and with an emphasis on writing. As part of regular homework you will be asked to write explanations of how you solve the problems
