Country folks, hillbilly hicks, and country chicks
Rundown schools, Bluegrass music
And just sitting around with nothing to do

That is the perspective many have of Kentucky
I'm sure it may seem small
From the view of NYC or Washington, DC
That is no lie
But slow down-take a closer look

You'll find many things from afar
Grassy fields
Farmland and animals
Strong families keeping close
Loyal friends sticking together
Highways and schools, community's expanding
New businesses opening their doors

Sit down and enjoy my view
Kentucky's greatest riches are its people

Let me share one example
My mentor Marie is so dear to me
She puts a smile on my face when I am down
She is yet one of the greatest friends I've found
She's been there for me through thick and thin
I pray this friendship will never end

So now you see
Kentucky may be small
And may not seem extraordinary
But like I said, Kentucky's greatest riches
Are its people
