Where I知 From
(Inspired by a poem by George Ella Lyons)

I am from brothers,
From Texas, California, and others.
I知 from playgrounds and typhoons,
And croquet and birthday balloons.
I知 from Douglas and Jan,
And military housing in Japan.
I知 from fireworks every weekend,
From gymnastics and learning to bend.
I知 from doubled toys and matching clothes,
And frilly little dresses with matching bows.
I知 from never feeling spiritual hunger,
And protectiveness for my brother, minutes younger.

I知 from loving parents that help me to grow,
Vocal competitions and singing at the rodeo.
I知 from slumber parties and pillow fights,
From leotards, ballet shoes and tights.
I知 from stuck up girls that pretend I don稚 exist,
And friends left behind who assume me that I知 missed.
I知 from stacks of books and loving to read,
From playing with my dog, Tumbleweed.
I知 from doubtful teachers watching my success,
From taking hold of my life and finding my own happiness.

I知 from a number of strange nicknames,
And video, card, and board games.
I知 from playful comments about my height,
And from standing for what I know is right.
I知 from hobbies in the performing arts,
From games of Nerf gun arrows and darts.
I知 from friends who help me to feel whole,
And working hard to achieve my goal.
I知 from joking with my family at a holiday feast,
From mountains in the west and hills in the east.
I知 from discovering talents and doing my best,
I致e had my share of hardships, bit I知 greatly blessed.
