I am from soccer games
From trampolines and kickball in the backyard
I am from the clothes closet
Small and scrunched playing hind and go seek
I am from my grandparent’s daylilies and the old pine tree
Tall as a sky scraper’
I am from getting Christmas presents on Thanksgiving
From big feet
From Keith and Gabby
Diamond and Scooter
I am from walk don’t run and money doesn’t grow on trees

I’m from singing Hallelujah out loud
I’m from Bowling Green and Newberry Street
New York cheese pizza and Sloppy Joes
From “If You Give a Pig a Pancake” reminding me of when I was little
And tight hugs my Aunt Marsha would give me
Pictures and memories hidden in the guest closet space
That’s Where I’m From.
