Where I’m From

I am from bike wrecks and four-wheelers.
I’m from tire swings and bad accidents,
From Christmas at my Nana’s and home-
  Cooked food,

I’m from regular church attendance,
  Horse-playing, and broken wrists.

From “Don’t make me turn this car
Around” and “I told you so.”

I’m from morning breakfasts of biscuits
  And gravy,
From farming, cows, calves, kittens,
Grinding corn with my dad and almost
   Blinding him.

I am from flipping and my disappointments
  Of not believing in myself.

From swimming everyday in an above
Ground pool to mowing the yard every
Week with a bright red Snapper

I am from “Am I going to have to
Separate you two?” and “Can’t you two
  Be together for five minutes?”

From annoying my brother and “Is this
The line you set” or “Is this my half?”

From an abetting mother and a dad who
  Likes to play pranks,

From the woods behind my house that
  Stretch for miles,

I am from long, curvy creeks where I sit
And think for hours about my day and
  The future.
