I am from the sound of skateboards in the morning.
I am from bouncing balls on the basketball court.
I am from where the golden poppies bloom in the Spring.
I am from Sequoias and Redwoods.

I am from Mojave and Death Valley.
I am from Sacramento.
I am from fireplaces that burn warmly in the winter.
I am from box packing and rush hour.
I am from a park with every tree in the state.
I am from scary new schools in Dorris, Macdol and now, Hopkinsville High.
