The Cooper Clayton Method to Stop Smoking is a safe and effective way to help people stay smoke-free for the rest of their lives. The Cooper Clayton Method is a comprehensive behavioral smoking cessation program. It was started over 20 years ago by two faculty members at the University of Kentucky. Thomas Cooper, DDS, a dentist and former heavy smoker, developed the program with Richard Clayton, PhD, an expert on drug addiction.

This highly successful program is science based utilizing proven methods, which include education, skills training, group support, and nicotine replacement products--that is, nicotine patch, gum, or lozenge.

  • General smoking cessation info session "Are you ready to quit smoking?" Sept. 8th, 10:45-11:45am DUC 230
  • This session may be particularly helpful for individuals who are not sure they are ready to quit smoking
  • The Cooper Clayton programs starts with a mandatory introductory session Sept 15th and runs thru Dec. 8th
  • Meetings are Mondays 10:45-11:45am in DUC 230
  • Program is free, but participants pay for nicotine replacement products
  • These over-the-counter products are covered under the prescription drug plan offered by WKU through Anthem.  To obtain the products through the WKU health plan you will need a prescription from your doctor.  Your cost of the product will depend upon the specific plan under which you participate and its corresponding non-formulary brand co-payment.
  • Users of smoking cessation drug Chantix are welcome to attend.
