CANstruct for a Cause

Purpose

CANstruct for a Cause challenges organizations and groups to collect the most canned goods, which will be donated to local food banks. Participants build structures representative of their organization and groups. Then, they will take part in a reflective portion to discuss local poverty and food needs.

Who can participate?

Campus and Community groups of two or more participants can form a group

 

Is there a minimum number of cans to collect?

There is a no minimum number of cans to collect. It is suggested to collect at least 100 canned goods.

 

Who gets the canned goods?

The canned goods will be donated to three local food pantries: HOTEL INC, American Red Cross, and The Food Abides - WKU Food Pantry

 

How can I sign up a group?

Groups can sign up by contacting aurelia.spaulding@wku.edu.

 

How can I participate if I do not have a group?

There are a number of ways individuals can participate without having a group.

You can....

Come out to view the structures at 5:00pm.Volunteer at the event helping with various tasks and collecting canned goods. Serve as a volunteer packaging the canned goods at the close of the event.

Prizes

An award will be given for the most cans collected, most creative structure, and best overall structure.

 

Donate food without participating

Individuals can add to our collections by donating nonperishable items between April 1st-April 17th. Donations can be dropped off at the WKU ALIVE Center at 1818 31W ByPass or WKU Student Activities at Cravens 13. Donations will also be collected the night of the event beginning at 3pm.
