Greek Week Bowl-A-Thon

Greek Week at Western Kentucky University doesn’t officially begin until April 19th….

But as Amy Bingham tells us in this week’s “View from the Hill”, the games (and the fundraising) have already started!

Every year, WKU’S Greek Week council chooses two philanthropies to support….this year, one of them happens to be Scottsville’s Center for Courageous Kids.

The Center for Courageous Kids opened its 20 million dollar campus in Allen County 13 months ago.  Since then, 25 hundred campers, many with life threatening illnesses, have used the facility at no cost.

“No child or family will ever pay to attend Center for Courageous Kids.”

Fundraisers like this one help make that possible.  The first ever WKU Greek Week Bowl-a-Thon had 26 teams from fraternities and sororities competing against each other…and raising money for a good cause.

“I’m really glad one of our events is Camp Courageous…so we can give back to children less fortunate…it’s a great cause and we’re really happy to be here.”

And the Center is happy to have them!  Every dollar has a big impact on the camp’s day to day operations.

“It’s very difficult in these economic times for people to see where money is really gonna make a difference and with a budget as small as ours, it will.”

More than 200 children from Warren County have already camped at the Center and these college students want to do their part to reach as many more as possible.

“That is why we are in sororities to give back to Bowling Green and the surrounding area.”

Last night’s Bowl-a-thon raised more than three thousand dollars for Camp Courageous.  Plans are already in the works for next year’s event.

With this week’s View from the Hill, I’m Amy Bingham.
