Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Can I use the photos off the website to use in my brochure and/or magazine?Musical Instruments
Answer: No, this is highly discouraged. The resolution on a computer monitor is 72 DPI while the resolution for a publication is 300 DPI. When you enlarge a 72 DPI Image, it will look pixilated when printed in a publication. You would need to request the original raw image from the UP.

Question: How long does it take to get photos from the UP?
Answer: The amount of time it takes to get photos from the University Photographer varies according to your request and how early you request it. The UP gets many requests per day and it is first come, first serve. That is why all photo shoot requests require two weeks notice. The earlier you make a request the better.

Question: What does the University Photographer need me to do once I request a photo or schedule a photo shoot through the online Photo Request Form?
Answer: You will need to submit a CD-R (not CD-RW) with your name, telephone number, department and the request title written directly on the CD. If this information is not on the CD-R, there is a chance it will get shuffled in with the rest of the requests. Without a contact name and information, the UP won't know which CD belongs to which department for which request.

Question: What photos do you currently have that our department can use?
Answer: The University Photographer keeps a large stock of digital photos ranging from classrooms, campus scenes, student life, portraits and events from all seasons. These photos are constantly being updated. If the UP doesn't have what you need, make a request to have it photographed. The UP is here to serve your WKU photographic needs.
