___________________________________________________________________________________________ Introduction Dr. Buzzard became the director of the UE program in the fall of 2007. She has had a long career as a teacher and comes to WKU from a position as an Associate Professor in English and Coordinator of First-Year Experience at Quincy University in Quincy, IL. She was born in Neosho, Missouri, the far southwest corner of the state, where several generations of her family lived. As a young girl she attended one of the last 2-room country schools in the area. She met and married Steve Wiegenstein while they were in graduate school at the University of Missouri. Steve is also a professor and also has a PhD in English but has been teaching journalism for several years. He is the chairman of his department at Culver Stockton College in Canton, MO, and is currently working on a novel. They have a daughter, Anna, who is a student in journalism and cinema studies at the University of Iowa. One of their family traditions besides travel is an annual float trip on the Black River in south central Missouri. Courses Taught Too many to count: composition; general surveys in American literature; genre studies in poetry, drama, and fiction; introductory film surveys, gender in film, film theory; American Character, American Culture, American Landscape, First-Year Experience, Senior-Year Experience Educational Background She has three degrees in English—a PhD from the University of Missouri with an emphasis in modern literature and film. Her dissertation examined the phenomenological processes involved as a novel is adapted into film. She also has a MA from the University of Iowa and a BA from Drury University. Research Interests How novels get “translated” into films Other Interests Travel (several trips to Europe, one to Ghana in West Africa, one to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, and many journeys through the U.S.) A movie omnivore: international, oldies, documentaries, Reading, especially literary journalism Gardening, float trips and the out of doors in general
