Learning Communities The Gateway Community is Western's
living
and learning
community for first year students. Students who enroll in Gateway live
in the
same residence hall and take two or three classes with the same group
of
students. There are many advantages to living this academically focused
residential community. Students can make friends easily. They have the
opportunity to talk about what they are learning in their classes and
to study
with others in their residence hall. Professors have the opportunity to
design
their courses together so that the students can better synthesize the
knowledge
and skills that they are learning. Out of class meetings and special
events are
easy to schedule. Additional professional staff members and peer
advisors are
provided to support this community. The Gateway Program is a joint
effort of
Student Affairs and Academic Affairs. For more information on the

program, click here. |
