Presenter: Jerry Daday, Department of Sociology

Location: Garrett Conference Center, Conference Room #105
Date:
Wednesday, October 26, 2011

Time: 11:00 am- 12:30 pm

Jerry Daday is an associate professor in the Department of Sociology and the former director of the online Master of Arts in Criminology program at WKU. He regularly teaches three courses in this online MA program - comparative criminology, life-course criminology, and quantitative research methods. The first two courses are structured like a typical graduate level seminar with intensive reading of primary sources, discussion and debate, and examinations; however, the quantitative research methods course is offered as an independent study and has a workshop structure, requiring students to complete projects autonomously and to use Stata, a quantitative analysis program in the social sciences. Jerry will discuss the structure of his graduate level online seminars and the structure of his quantitative research methods course - focusing particularly on the similarities and unique elements associated with these two types of courses. The presentation will also focus on his incorporation of Tegrity, Blackboard, YouTube, and other online resources into the structure of these graduate level courses.
