Guidelines for retaining a GSA Scholarship as a student in the Department of Theatre & Dance
Students who apply for and receive a Governor's School for the Arts (GSA) Scholarship in the areas of theatre, performing arts or dance must, upon matriculation, maintain a major in the Department of Theatre & Dance in order to retain their GSA Scholarship. GSA Scholarships are renewed annually and students who choose to change major risk having their GSA Scholarship rescinded. The decision to continue or rescind a GSA scholarship in such cases rests solely with the Department of Theatre & Dance faculty. Other standards for the retention of a GSA scholarship are as follows:
B.F.A. in Performing Arts major
(Concentrations in Acting, Directing, Musical Theatre, or Theatre Design and Technology)
In order to retain their GSA Scholarship, B.F.A. in Performing Arts majors (both seeking admission and admitted) must:
- Maintain a minimum department and university-wide GPA of 3.0.
- Participate fully in the department's Jury/Portfolio Review (JPR) process. Failure to participate or meet minimal standards in the JPR process, or dismissal from the B.F.A. in Performing Arts, may jeopardize the retention of a GSA Scholarship.
- Progress through the program in a timely fashion. Students who earn less than 15 credit hours per year in this major risk losing their GSA Scholarship.
