The WKU Dance Company is a performance group oriented to training dancers in the skills of performance through a variety of repertory created by faculty and guest artists. The pre-professional dance student will have the opportunity to develop practices and technique oriented toward a dance career. Membership in Dance Company is by audition only.
Each year the WKU Dance Company performs:
A Holiday Extravaganza, fall main stage faculty choreographed concert
An Evening of Dance, spring main stage faculty and guest artist concert
Overseas, Italy tour concert series (years toured 2005, '06, '08, '09, '10, '11, '15)
Other performance opportunities may include:
American College Dance Conference
Tennessee Dance Festival
Community based performances
Choreographic residencies with guest artists are typically offered at least once per year. Guest choreographer may be in residence for one to eight weeks. These residencies are a high priority for the education of each student.
Guest artists of prominence who have set their work on our students include: Melissa Lowe-Hancock, Gail Gilbert, Mitzi Adams,Christopher Morgan, Barbea Williams, James Clouser, Cornelius Carter, Victor Alexander, Carlos Dos Santos Jr. and Karen Callaway Williams.
Students who have completed the choreography course sequence have three opportunities per year to showcase their choreography. We value this experience as a beneficial aspect of the growth and education of the student. Student choreography showcases include:
Fall Last Chance to Dance, informal student choreography showcase Spring Last Chance to Dance
The Dance Project,fully produced student concert
The WKU Dance Company.
