The Main Shop
The WKU Costume Shop is situated in rooms 306A & 307 on the third floor of The Ivan Wilson Center for Fine Arts. The shop consists of three rooms: the main workroom, an office with fitting areas, and a laundry & craft space.
The main work room is equipped with eight domestic Bernina sewing machines and one industrial Bernina, two domestic overlock machines, a cover-stitch machine and an industrial iron. The ironing table and both cutting tables measure 4'x8' and have extra storage below them. Anti-fatigue mats on either side keep the students and staff comfortable while working.
The dress forms in the shop range in size from 6-20 female and 38-50 male, and include two brand new forms donated this year from PGM Pro.
Office and Fitting Areas
The Office is connected to the main shop and contains the shop supervisor's desk area, two student computers (one PC & one Mac) equipped with Microsoft Office and Internet access, a lounge area, and the fitting room. This space also holds seven large storage cabinets containing shop supplies, fabric storage, and garment racks for current shows.
Laundry and Craft Room
Located behind the costume shop is the craft room and laundry area. This room contains two washing machines (one for dye projects, one for laundry), one dryer, a dye vat and ventilation hood, and a craft work area. Shelving and cabinets contain all laundry, wardrobe, dye, craft, and safety supplies. All flammable supplies are stored in the departmental Flammables Cabinet located in the Prop Shop.
Costume Storage is located on the second floor of Gordon Wilson Hall and is divided into two large rooms and 5 smaller rooms. The main room is divided between men's and women's twentieth century clothing, dance wear, and accessories. The second large room is home to men's and women's period clothing, ethnic & fantasy costumes, uniforms, armor, robes and hats. Each of the large rooms contains two tiers of hanging racks and shelving units for boxed items. The smaller storage rooms house men's shoes, women's shoes, period undergarments and body padding, wigs and purses, and special storage for delicate vintage garments.
