| About This Seminar |
The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning: Inquiring into Learning and Learning CommunitiesFacilitators: Lorraine Gilpin, Judith Longfield, & Diana Sturges, Georgia Southern UniversityIntroduction: This seminar will be presented in the following parts: After reviewing the learning objectives, we will introduce participants to SoTL by providing an overview of SoTL at Georgia Southern and information about SoTL’s distinguishing characteristics and nature. Next we will share three different examples or vignettes of SoTL projects, including, course-based, multiple instructors, and multidisciplinary investigations, both within and independent of a SoTL Faculty Learning Community. The vignettes may be viewed in any order, and are followed by suggestions on designing a SoTL question (and a link to a form on which you can begin to plan your own SoTL project). Unlike previous on-line seminars, this seminar is not primarily discussion-question based. Instead, the capstone of the seminar will be participants’ own development of a framework for a SoTL project. If you plan to have us review your SoTL project draft, we ask that you submit it by 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 30 so that we will have sufficient time to provide you with feedback. You are welcome to post questions at any time during the week. Dr. Lorraine Gilpin lsgilpin@georgiasouthern.edu
