Banners for Your Online Class
by Sally Kuhlenschmidt, Western Kentucky University
Background
Our Course Management System gives you the capacity to change the "banner" that appears when a student first enters a class. This website provides a variety of banners that you can download and use. Some pertain to class business (e.g., a paper is due!) and some are quotations to set a tone or to prompt discussion. I've also included some "blanks" that you can modify using Paint to be a personalized banner.
Making these banners is a hobby for me so I'm open to suggestions. At some times of the year it will take me longer to fulfill requests than at other times and I will give precedence to WKU faculty. I do retain copyright over these images as they are my creations but you may use them for non profit educational purposes. My reward is hearing from you so let me know which ones you are using so I make more of those.
Caveat: In Blackboard course management system, the default "alt tag" for the banner is "<your course name> Course Banner". If you have students who are visually impaired, they will not know what the banner says unless you tell them in the Announcements.
Banner Links
How do you 'get a copy'?
Click on the link of the collection in which you are interested, for PC's in Internet Explorer right click on the image, select Save Target As... and save it to your harddrive in a place you can find it. Then in Blackboard 6.2 ...go to Control Panel....Settings...Course Design...Course Banner and follow the directions.
