![]() Study Abroad Health & SafetyThe health and safety of WKU students, faculty and staff while they are studying or teaching abroad are of the utmost importance for us here in the Study Abroad Office. In order for study abroad programs to be successful in this regard, certain steps must be taken prior to departure and while abroad to maintain both the health and safety of everyone involved. Getting ready to go!WKU's Health Services has a travel clinic designed to prepare you for travel outside the U.S. The immunization clinic is designed to assist travelers in receiving the correct immunizations before leaving the country. The clinic provides health tips for international travelers and answers health related travel questions. View a list of countries requiring the yellow fever vaccination prior to entry into the country. HealthHealth insurance is required for all study abroad participants at WKU. If you already have insurance, please check with your insurance company to see if there are participating providers (doctors, clinics, hospitals, etc.) where you will be traveling. You must then find out the necessary steps to be able to use your insurance while abroad. Insurance companies may require their customers to pay their medical expenses up front and then file for a reimbursement later. Each insurance company will have their own policies and procedures, so you must check before you depart. In addition to health insurance, emergency travel insurance is strongly recommended. The Study Abroad Office does not endorse any one plan, but the following are a few of the many options available: ISIC, Travel Guard, and International Student Insurance. Here are some tips on health matters for studying abroad:
