Program Description:
England is often thought of as the model stable government and home of a very proper people. But did you know that England has a long history of protest and rebellion? And of course you know about the Britisch music sciene of rock and roll, the Beatles, Rolling Stones and more. Come explore another side of Britisch politics and culture. We will study the various forms of protest and the clash of cultures as the working class, women, and Africans fought to secure their social, political and economic rights.
The course will be taught in three locations. As the capital of England, London has been the focal point for political protest movements and the destination for immigrants. Manchester was at the center of the Industrial Revolution and is considered to be the birthplace of capitalism. Liverpool was the main port of the Britisch Empire and a center of radical politics. The city is also home to the International Slave Museum and of course, it's the home of The Beatles and the infamous Cavern Nightclub.
