Program Description:

Study, live and work in the “Capital of Europe,” Brussels, Belgium in Summer 2012. Course offerings: “Islam and Politics in Europe and option to take a second course from among French, Business, International relations and communications or option to intern with an international company or organization. Internships are competitive.

Brussels is the ideal location for studying Islam and politics in Europe. The population of Brussels is about 20-25% Muslim. Many Muslims migrated to Belgium from Morocco and Turkey. As the headquarters of the EU, Brussels deals with all issues related to the European Union, including immigration. It is home to many international organizations. While French is the dominant language, Dutch (Flemish) and English are widely spoken. As such, students can easily transition to studying and living in Brussels.

We have partnered with Vesalius College, which offers a variety of internships with reputable organizations and recognizable companies, including the Montenegro Mission to the EU, NATO, European Journalism Centre, Laffineur Law Firm, Mastercard, UPS, Fulbright-Belgium and many others. Students can benefit from Vesalius support services and facilities at nearby Vrije University, Brussels.

Another feature of this trip is the option to home stay with a Belgian family. This experience can enhance the internationalization experience significantly. You can learn about European culture and politics by living with Europeans. Independent apartment housing is also available.

Both courses and internships offer our students to study with and learn from students from around the world.

Additional Information:

Visit major attractions in Brussels, including, the EU and Parliamentarium, Grand Place, Royal Military Museum, Grand Mosque and Islamic Center, Al-Khalil Mosque; possible excursions to Bruges and Antwerp; weekend trip to either Amsterdam or Paris (TBD).

Brussels is centrally located so weekend trips are reasonably priced and doable. These out-of-country trips are not included in the costs.
