Academic Advisors & Study Abroad

Mexican Dancers, Photo by Susann DavisThe role of the advisor is one of them most important in the study abroad process. Many students go to their advisors for information on the wide variety of topics. Of the many hats worn by advisors at WKU, advocate is certainly one of them. Many of a student's questions regarding study abroad will revolve around how the credit can be used. Each opportunity is different and comes with different academic possibilities and constraints. Two things can help you answer this question as effectively and accurately as possible:

1. Program information pages found on this website that provide as much information as possible about the opportunity in question;

2. Communication with the WKU Study Abroad Office. While the courses listed in the program information pages will have the facts about the course, there may be some creative ways to use the class, or in some cases, model the opportunity. This is where the communication aspect comes into play. If a program looks interesting and to the ultimate benefit of the student, there might be academic possibilities that do not, at first glance, seem apparent. This is not the case with all programs, but it might just work for the student you are trying to help.
