Student Employment

Student Employment Eligibility

Enrollment Requirements

During the academic year, a student must be enrolled at least part-time (Undergraduate = 6 credit hours; Graduate = 5 credit hours) to be eligible to work. If a student's enrollment drops below part-time status, the student's employment will have to be terminated. {Note: During the academic year, international students must be enrolled at least full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours; Graduate = 9 credit hours) to be eligible to work on-campus.}

During the summer sessions, a student does not have to be enrolled to work on-campus as long as he/she is returning at least part-time the following fall semester. If a student is not returning for the following fall semester, he/she is only eligible to work during the summer session through which he/she is enrolled.

All students must be making satisfactory academic progress toward a degree to be eligible to work on-campus. A complete satisfactory academic progress policy is on file in the Department of Student Financial Assistance.

If a student was cleared to work on-campus and then became denied academically at some point during the assignment (enrollment dropped after receiving aid, fall grades reviewed, etc.), the student would be notified to cease employment.

During the academic year, a student can usually work up to 20 hours per week. Once a student secures a position, the student's actual work award is based on the number of hours per week that the student has been requested to work. If a student secures a position in more than one department, the total hours per week that he/she is eligible to work cannot exceed 20 (i.e., the student could work 10 hours in one department and 10 hours in another department, etc.).

During the summer session, a student can usually work up to 40 hours per week during the periods of non-enrollment, and 30 hours per week during any period of enrollment. (However, if a student is not returning at least part-time the following fall semester, he/she is only eligible to work through the session in which he/she is enrolled).
