Scholarships

Beginning Freshmen University Scholarships

 

The following scholarships are offered to both traditional and non-traditional beginning freshmen who begin attendance in the fall semester. Complete applications received with a postmark date no later than January 15 will be considered for the scholarships listed below. Applications postmarked after January 15 will not be given full consideration. To meet the January 15 deadline, applicants should have qualifying test scores PRIOR to February test dates. Late scores and adjusted class rank cannot be accepted. It is not necessary to apply for a specific award. Students will be awarded the largest scholarship possible. Scholarships are awarded competitively on the basis of ACT/SAT composite scores, cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 unweighted scale, rank in class, curriculum, activities, and honors.

Honors College membership is required for Award of Excellence and Presidential Scholarships. If you are awarded an Award of Excellence Scholarship, you will be invited to apply for a Presidential Scholarship. Presidential Scholarship applications are due two weeks from receipt of notification of an Award of Excellence.   Applicants who are selected for a Presidential Scholarship interview will be required to attend a mandatory one-day interview in March, 2012.

Applicants for the Alumni Leadership Scholarship should enclose with the completed application a two page, double-spaced essay on your experiences and goals as a leader (see below).

All scholarship applicants will be notified by mid May. You may access scholarship award information via your TopNet account. TopNet login information is available at www.wku.edu/finaid/howto.htm.

 Presidential Scholarship 

Applicants with a 3.95 GPA and 31 ACT that wish to be considered for this level of award will be required to submit additional information. Eligible students will receive a letter with details approximately two weeks after submission of completed scholarship application.  Covers in-state tuition, $3,700 on-campus housing allowance, $2,100 meal, and $1,000 book allowance, and participation in the Honors College.  Renewable with a 3.5 overall GPA and good standing in the Honors College.

Award of Excellence

Applicants with a 3.95 GPA and 31 ACT are assured this scholarship. GPA and ACT scores below the above stated will be awarded on a competitive basis. Additional requirements listed above.  Covers in-state tuition, $3,000 on-campus housing allowance, $500 book allowance and participation in the Honors College.  Renewable with 3.5 overall GP and good standing in the Honors College.

Hallmark

National Merit or Achievement Semi-Finalist and 3.0 unweighted GPA.  Covers in-state tuition, standard semi-private room on campus, and $500 book allowance.  Renewable with 3.5 overall GPA.

Regents

ACT composite of 28 (or SAT total of 1240) and 3.90 unweighted GPA. Covers In-state tuition (National Academic Scholarship students not eligible).  Renewable with 3.5 overall GPA. 

KY Governor's Scholar

Participant in the Governor’s Scholars program and not receiving a larger award. Minimum unweighted GPA of 3.5 and ACT composite of 25 required.  Covers in-state tuition.  Renewable with 3.5 overall GPA.

Alumni Leadership

ACT composite of 21, 3.00 unweighted GPA, exceptional leadership & essay listed above.  Five scholarships at $1,000 including one award for the Norhter Kentucky area are available.  Renewable.

Kentucky Scholar

A $1,500 scholarship which requires student to be 1st or 2nd in class at a Kentucky high school by January 15th and not receiving a larger award.  Not renewable.

College Heights

This scholarship is $1,5000 which is competitively awarded. Last year’s minimum was a 3.80 unweighted GPA & 27 ACT composite. Not renewable.

 Alumni

There are 30 $800 scholarships which are competively awarded. Last year’s minimum was a 3.70 unweighted GPA & 26 ACT composite.  Not renewable.

Trust Fund Scholarships

Varies according to the criteria established by more than 300 trust funds administered by the College Heights Foundation and the WKU Foundation. 

Distinct Scholars

Merit-based; targeted to under-represented populations. Last year’s minimum was a 3.5 unweighted GPA & 25 ACT composite.  Covers in-state tuition and above.
