Beginning Freshmen University Scholarships
Western Kentucky University is pleased to announce the following scholarships
offered to beginning freshmen who begin attendance in the fall 2013 semester.
Application deadline is January 15, 2013. Additional requirements are listed below.

Cherry Presidential Scholarship Competitively awarded. Applicants with a minimum 3.80 unweighted GPA and ACT composite of 31 (1360 SAT) who wish to be considered for this level of award will be required to submit additional information. Eligible students will receive a letter with details approximately two weeks after submission of completed scholarship application. Covers in-state tuition, $3,700 on-campus housing allowance, $2,100 meal allowance, and $1,000 book allowance, and participation in the Honors College. Renewable with a 3.5 overall GPA and good standing in the Honors College. Must maintain full-time enrollment. |

1906 Founders Competitively awarded. Applicants with a minimum 3.80 unweighted GPA and ACT composite of 31 (1360 SAT) who do not compete for the Cherry Presidential or those that competed for the Cherry Presidential and were not selected, are eligible to compete for the 1906 Founders Scholarship. Covers in-state tuition, $3,000 on-campus housing allowance, $500 book allowance and participation in the Honors College. If not selected for 1906 Founders and GPA is 3.9 or greater, will receive in-state tuition. If GPA is greater than or equal to a 3.80 and less than a 3.90, will receive 50% in-state tuition. Renewable with 3.5 overall GPA and good standing in the Honors College. Must maintain full-time enrollment. |

Hallmark National Merit or Achievement Semi-Finalist and a minimum 3.00 unweighted GPA. Covers in-state tuition, standard semi-private room on campus, and $500 book allowance. Renewable with 3.5 overall GPA. Must maintain full-time enrollment. |

|
Regents Applicants with a minimum of 3.90 unweighted GPA and ACT composite of 28 (1240 SAT). Covers in-state tuition (National/International Academic Scholarship recipients not eligible). Renewable with 3.5 overall GPA. Must maintain full-time enrollment. |

|
KY Governor's Scholar Participant in the Governor's Scholars Program and not receiving a larger award and a minimum 3.50 unweighted GPA and an ACT composite of 25 (1130 SAT). Covers in-state tuition. Renewable with 3.5 overall GPA. Must maintain full-time enrollment. |

|
Alumni Leadership Applicants with a minimum 3.00 unweighted GPA and ACT composite of 21 (980 SAT), exceptional leadership. Along with the scholarship application, must submit a two page, double-spaced essay on your experience and goals as a leader. Five scholarships at $1,000. Renewable. Must maintain full-time enrollment. |

Kentucky Scholar A $1,500 scholarship which requires student to be 1st or 2nd in class at a Kentucky high school by January 15th and not receiving a larger award. Not renewable. Must maintain full-time enrollment. |

Spirit Makes The Master Applicants with a minimum 3.50 unweighted GPA (based on final high school GPA) and ACT composite of 27 (1210 SAT). Covers $2500 (in-state / Tuition Incentive Program); $5000 (out-of-state). Renewable with 3.2 overall GPA. Must maintain full-time enrollment. |

Red Towel Applicants with a minimum 3.30 unweighted GPA (based on final high school GPA) and ACT composite of 26 (1170 SAT). Covers $1500 (instate/Tuition Incentive Program); $3000 (out-of-state). Renewable with 3.2 overall GPA. Must maintain full-time enrollment. |

Alumni Competitively awarded; $800 value. Last year’s minimum was a 3.70 unweighted GPA & 26 ACT composite. Not renewable. Must maintain full-time enrollment. |

Trust Fund Scholarships Varies according to the criteria established by more than 300 trust funds administered by the College Heights Foundation and the WKU Foundation. Must maintain full-time enrollment. |

|
Distinct Scholars Competitvely awareded; merit-based; targeted to under-represented populations. Last year’s minimum was a 3.5 unweighted GPA and an ACT composite of 25 (1130 SAT). Must maintain full-time enrollment.

Additional Requirements:
Complete applications received with a postmark date no later than January 15 will
be considered for the scholarships listed above. Applications postmarked after January
15 will not be given full consideration. To meet the January 15 deadline, applicants
should have qualifying test scores PRIOR to February test dates. Late scores and adjusted
class rank cannot be accepted. It is not necessary to apply for a specific award.
Students will be awarded the largest scholarship possible. Scholarships are awarded
competitively on the basis of ACT/SAT composite scores, cumulative grade point average
on a 4.0 unweighted scale, rank in class, curriculum, activities, and honors.
Honors College membership is required for the Cherry Presidential and 1906 Founders Scholarships. If you have a 3.8 unweighted GPA and 31 ACT, you will be invited to apply for a Cherry Presidential Scholarship. Cherry Presidential Scholarship application materials are due two weeks from receipt of your notification of eligibility. Applicants who are selected for a Cherry Presidential Scholarship interview will be required to attend a mandatory one-day interview in March, 2013.
All scholarship applicants will be notified by mid May. You may access scholarship award information via your TopNet account. TopNet login information is available at www.wku.edu/finaid/howto.htm.
