Williams Scholars/Clinical Outreach
The University of Louisville Clinical Outreach Scholars is a joint effort between the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, the South Central AHEC and the staff at the Dental Clinic in Bowling Green. The Dental Clinic is located in the Medical Center's Free Clinic. This relationship began in the fall of 2006 when we had our first group of students.
Five senior dental students are selected to participate and they receive a decrease in their dental school tuition (about $3000) and are a recognized University of Louisville School of Dentistry Honor. The program is from September to April each year.
Two students come out for a day each month to one of four clinics. Two of those clinics are located in the South Central AHEC: Dental Clinic in Bowling Green and the Richard Miller Clinic in Elizabethtown. The other clinics are Paducah's Children's Free Clinic and Henderson's Children's Free Clinic.
These students provide dental treatments (fillings, extractions, suturing, bone filing, x-rays, etc.) to patients which counts toward their required clinical experience and provides an additional source of services in our rural communities.
Pikeville College
The South Central AHEC will gladly work with third and fourth year Pikeville Osteopathic students in helping you find a clinical rotation. We have several disciplines that are willing to have students for a clinical rotation. Please contact veronica.drake@wku.edu.
Out of State Students
If you are an out of state student seeking a rotation or help with housing for a rotation in Kentucky, I will do what I can to help you. You must understand that my first obligation is to the students from the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky. But I will be happy to help you with an in-state rotation within the South Central AHEC region all I can.
Foreign Medical Graduates
Due to liability issues, I am unable to assist foreign medical graduates in setting up rotations in our region.
