Message From The President

In 2005 Western Kentucky University is scheduled to be reviewed for re-affirmation of its accreditation by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). We welcome the occasion to reflect on our efforts to achieve our mission and realize our strategic goals, and we look forward to developing and implementing a Quality Enhancement Plan that will build on our achievements as well as guide us toward new ways to ensure the success of our students and programs.

In the months ahead all members of the university community will be involved in reviewing the accomplishments of each unit, identifying directions for growth, and developing new ways to realize our vision: to be the best comprehensive public institution in Kentucky and among the best in the nation. This SACS website will be the primary means of facilitating communication about our SACS Re-accreditation Review Project. Questions and comments about the Project or the website should be directed to one of the co-chairs, Dr. Dennis George and Dr. Retta Poe, or to Dr. John Petersen, our SACS Institutional Liason.

Re-affirmation of accreditation is a very important process in the life of a university. We are serious about our work in this process and our intent to use it as a means to take stock of our progress and rededicate ourselves to continuous improvement.
