What is RHA’s Shantytown?

Shantytown is an annual program sponsored by Residence Hall Association that brings awareness of homelessness to residents. It is usually held during the fall semester sometime

This program starts around 8:30 PM Tuesday night and goes non-stop until around 2:30 AM Wednesday morning. Once the shanties are up, they are then judged, based on criteria listed on the next page and then halls will be recognized for their efforts and creativity.

Halfway through the building of the shanties, residents take a break and hear a speaker that will explain more about the homelessness issues in our country.  Then, residents will have a few more minutes to finish their shanties. Judging will be announced later in the night.

What is RHA’s Homecoming?

During Homecoming week, your hall will be competing in three campus wide competitions.  These will be BANNER CONTEST, where each hall makes a banner that coincides with the theme of Homecoming, “A Century of Spirit.”  The second of the competitions is the LOBBY DECORATIONS, where your hall will decorate the lobby to represent and support the theme. The third of the main competitions will be the HANGING OF THE RED.  This is all the windows in the hall need to have SOMETHING red in them. Anything from paint to a shirt to a towel will work. The more red the better!! With each of these competitions, your hall will receive RHA points. The hall with the highest number of RHA points will win the HUGE Annual Homecoming trophy.
