Here are answers to some frequently asked questions about the Online Teaching Summer Camp. Please pay close attention to the "Camp Prerequisites" section.
What topics are covered in the camp?
Each day of the camp covers a particular area of emphasis in online instruction and course development. Topics include: the changing faculty role in online teaching, integration of instructional skills, creating and managing documents, communicating with students in online courses, options for assessment, legal and ethical issues, designing for accessbility, and much more.
What are the objectives of the camp?
We hope that by the end of the camp you will:
- Be more confident about your ability to teach online
- Know who to go to for help
- Understand what instructional options you have in Blackboard
- Begin the process of integrating your instructional knowledge into online teaching
What days will the 2007 OTSC be held?
The 5-day camp will start on Wednesday, May 16 and will continue through Tuesday, May 22. There will be no sessions on Saturday or Sunday.
What are the hours each day?
The official start time is 9:00 AM each day. However, the computer lab is open at 8:30 AM if you want to do hands-on work on your own. The camp ends at approximately 4:00 PM each day.
Do I have to come every day ?
Yes, your attendance is mandatory every day to qualify for the development grant. The camp is structured in a way that missing one day causes you to miss valuable information and fall behind the others.
How do I get the $500 development grant ?
If you attend the camp every day and then develop an online class contact Pam Wilson by email at pam.wilson@wku.edu or by phone at 270.745.2106. She will prepare a development contract for you and will discuss the payment with you once your course is showing enrollments in TopNet.
What should I bring with me ?
We will supply an informational binder, legal pads, pens, etc. If you wish to bring some of your face to face course materials (in electronic format if possible) you will have lab time in the mornings to work on your online course in Blackboard.
What are the prerequisites to attend the camp?
Because of the range of skill in attendees, we find participants have a better experience if they attend the Blackboard New User training prior to the camp. If you do not attend the training in advance you are likely to fall behind the others. Click here to visit the Info Tech training calendar.
Where is the camp held?
At the Mass Media and Technology Hall Room 257.
How much does it cost?
The Online Teaching Summer Camp only requires advanced registration and a committment to attend every day.
Are meals provided during the day?
We provide breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack each day.
