Study Board General Information

Psychology is a science. The principles that students learn from textbooks and in psychology courses were derived from scientific research. To enhance the students' understanding of the research process in psychology, the Department of Psychology and the Department of Psychological Sciences offers opportunities for students to engage in psychological research experiences for class credit. Students in PSY 100 for the Fall or Spring semesters are required to earn six (6) research credits. Students in PSY 100 for the Summer, Winter, May or Bi-term semesters are required to earn two (2) research credits. Other Psychology classes, at the discretion of the instructor, may also offer research credit. Students earn one (1) credit for each half hour (30 min.) of research participation and half (0.5) of a credit for each satisfactory article quiz. Only credits earned through the Study Board will count toward fulfillment of the course requirement.

Earning Credits

Students can earn research credits from two primary activities:

Regardless of which activities are used to earn research credits, students will manage their credits with the Study Board. Students should verify their credits throughout the semester to be sure that any earned credits were granted. Questions about research credits for a specific study should be directed to the researcher. Please follow the links below for more information about using the Study Board.

Special information for students who are not in PSY 100.

Because the Study Board system communicates with students via email, each student must maintain and use an active WKU email account. If an email account becomes inactive (for example, over quota), the student's Study Board account will be deactivated and any pending studies will be canceled. The student may have the Study Board account reactivated by contacting the Study Board Administrator.

Any additional questions about research credits, account information, or any other aspect of research participation can be answered by the FAQ page, or the other pages of this website. A complete set of Study Board guidelines is available on a web page that includes a download option.  If question or problem cannot be addressed by information at this website, a solution may be found by contacting the Study Board Administrator.
