National Volunteer Week at WKU

Across our great nation, many campuses and communities celebrate National Volunteer Week in April, and Western Kentucky University's ALIVE Center for Community Partnerships and Leadership & Volunteerism office collaborates each year to encourage campus and community members to volunteer and celebrate volunteers. This year, we will celebrate National Volunteer Week April 23-27, 2012, one week after the national recognition week. With this year's theme, WKU's Project Transform, we have activities planned for different days of the week, and we would appreciate your support in making the week a success.

The purpose of WKU's  celebration of National Volunteer Week is to stimulate and highlight student engagement efforts in the community by building awareness and providing opportunities to serve. Last year, we had more than 100 volunteers serve in multiple areas, and we anticipate more in 2012.

WKU's Project Transform theme involves the kickoff of Habitat for Humanity's program titled, A Brush with Kindness. It includes a week–long project to meet the home improvement needs of one or more families in the Bowling Green area. Through this project, students, faculty, staff, and community members will come together to  provide exterior home improvements.
