Bike Patrol Unit

The WKU Police Bike Patrol Unit was established in 1993.

Each of our Bike Patrol Officers are certified through the IPMBA (International Police Mountain Bike Association). The training sessions include  bike familiarization, handling skills, basic mechanics, traffic safety, suspect contacts and a firearms course involving bicycle use. http://www.ipmba.org.

Over the years, bike patrol has proven to be an invaluable asset in the department’s approach to community policing. Patrolling on a bike gives our officers a great deal of mobility and enables the officer to quickly and efficiently patrol and respond to areas of campus that are inaccessible to patrol vehicles but too large for traditional foot patrols. The bike officers are able to respond quickly to many service calls; allowing the officer to arrive unnoticed when necessary.

We encourage all cyclists to remember to ride safely and obey all traffic laws.

Stay safe and Go Tops!
