"Where are your graduates now?"

It's no secret that establishing a career in the highly competitive world of the performing arts takes extraordinary talent, discipline, good judgment, '. and some lucky breaks. So we work hard to help our graduates put their best foot forward when they leave WKU, with career prep courses like Acting Audition Workshop and Performing Arts Career Seminar, by partnering with professional arts organizations across the country to create internships, and by ensuring that our students and faculty alike have access to up-to-date information about graduate and professional training programs, internships, apprenticeships and employment opportunities. And a significant number of our alumni are indeed arts and entertainment professionals; WKU graduates can be found working on Broadway and off, in regional and independent theatres across the country, in international tours, feature & independent films, and television.

But there's much more to earning a college degree than simply getting a job 'in your field.' In today's economy graduates can expect to find themselves navigating through as many as six different careers over the course of their working life. To aim only at getting a job is to aim way too low. And degree from the WKU Department of Theatre and Dance aligns well with this contemporary reality. Here's why: success in the world of the performing arts, even at the college level, requires a high degree of literacy, creativity, reliability, self-discipline, and exceptional collaborative and communication skills 'all things that make good leaders in any working environment. Many of our alumni have made good lives for themselves as educators, small business owners, managers and executives in a variety of industries. The fact is, our graduates tend to do quite well when they leave us, whether or not they've committed themselves to life as arts and entertainment professionals, and we are justly proud of them all. What they've learned at WKU, about the arts, the world, and themselve stays with them wherever they go, and they lead a richer, more rewarding life for it.
