Listed below are the rules and policies that will help to make each lesson a success!

Pre-College String Development Program Western Kentucky University Studio Policies

Please be sure to always have your INSTRUMENT and MUSIC at each lesson. This includes the proper supplies and ALL music books that we are using at that time.

Be on time for your lessons. When it is time for your lesson to begin, knock on the studio door.

Come to each lesson with your assignments prepared. This allows us to make the most out of our time each week. You will not only find yourself improving quickly, you'll have more fun!

Students should keep a "lesson diary" in which they can take notes during lessons and keep track of what they have practiced.

Instructors will have to reschedule lessons due to recruiting, university and professional obligations. Please be understanding and flexible with our complicated schedules. We will do our best to reschedule at a time that is convenient for you.

If you have a conflict, you may switch lesson times with another student. Rescheduling and make-up lessons are at the discretion of the instructor. Make-up lessons cannot be guaranteed.

It is critical that your child is playing on the best quality instrument possible. Consult with your instructor before renting or purchasing an instrument.

Strings should be changed regularly and bows need to be rehaired at least twice a year.

Talk to your instructor about what strings to use on your instrument because the quality varies dramatically.

Parents are welcomed and encouraged to attend lessons. Please observe quietly and take notes. We encourage parents to be actively involved in their child's musical progress. Help your child in their daily practice.

In addition, we hope you will expose your child to as much great string music as possible. We would be glad to make some recommendations.
