2008 Undergraduate News
Morgan Eklund won the Sarabande Books student poetry contest. Her poem, "Her Father", will be published on the Sarabande website, as well as in a letterpress broadside and will be distributed around the state. Morgan also received an honorable mention for her poem, "Complexity of Distinction".
Savannah Tankersley placed first in the Jim Wayne Miller Contest for literary non-fiction. Heather Funk placed second and Tyler Jackson placed third. Congratulations to all who qualified!
Bobby Deignan's one-act play, "Bald-Face Lies" is in production at the Public Theater of Kentucky (PTK).
Lesley Doyle's poem, "Blackberry Picking", was published in the October/November issue of Mississippi Crow.

Graduate Student Distinctions 2008
Charles Williamson won the Potter College Outstanding Graduate Student Award--the fifth time in seven years that this award has gone to an English student.
R. Haynes, a Writing Project Fellow, made a perfect score on the Praxis exam, the highest score in all of Kentucky.
Kimberly Reynolds won the Ray and Pat Browne Award for the best paper in popular culture studies at the PCAS/ACAS conference in Louisville. She will present at the national PCA/ACA conference in New Orleans in April.
Other Graduate Distinctions
Two 2008 graduates (Melissa Messer and Emmett Barton) were accepted by the JET program (teaching English in Japan).
Three WKU poets appear in the latest issue of Grab-A-Nickle: Chelsea Beville, Sarah Bruce Durr, and Corey Bewley (who had two poems published).
