MA in Criminology

Thank you for your interest in our online Master of Arts Program in Criminology.

We will begin offering the Master of Arts Degree in Criminology in the Fall semester of 2009.  This curriculum is comprised of 11 three-credit hour courses (total of 33 credit hours).

Every course in the curriculum will be taught online.  This will provide students with the opportunity to complete assigned reading materials, to submit their assignments, to watch video recorded lectures, and to participate in class discussion boards during days and times of the week that are convenient for them.  All of the material will be available and distributed through WKU's Blackboard Website.

We plan to offer four courses in the Fall semester, three courses in the Spring semester, two courses over the summer months, and one course during the 3-week winter term in January.

The MA in Criminology curriculum is comprised of 4 required courses (12 credit hours), 6 elective courses (18 credit hours), and 1 research tool course (3 credit hours).

There is no thesis requirement, but students must complete a 3-credit hour research project and pass an oral examination (this is one of the required courses listed above).

Prospective students may use the links to the left to learn more about the application process, to read an overview of our MA in Criminology program, to learn about the curriculum, and to view a listing of our faculty and their areas of concentration.  We have also posted our tentative schedule of course offerings in this new program over the next two calendar years.

If you wish to apply to our MA in Criminology graduate program, you may apply online by visiting the Office of Graduate Studies and Research website.  The application process for our program requires applicants: 1) to submit an application, 2) pay the application fee of $40, 3) submit official Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores, and 4) submit official transcripts from all universities attended (WKU alumni do not need to submit official transcripts).

Applicants may also decide to submit a "non-degree" seeking application.  This option is available to prospective students who would like to complete up to 12 credit hours of coursework (4 classes) before formally applying to our graduate program.  Non-degree seeking applicants must complete the online application and pay the application fee, but they do NOT need to submit official transcripts or GRE scores until they apply as a "degree seeking" student.  Please remember - only 12 credit hours (4 classes) can be taken as a non-degree seeking student before students must formally apply to our graduate program.
