What we do--
Writers need feedback from readers to help refine their writing. The Writing Center can give you this feedback. Our tutors will talk with you about your writing to help you :
-brainstorm ideas
-clarify main points
-strengthen logic and support
-integrate sources and credit them properly-
smooth out organization
-fine- tune sentence style
-learn to proofread
Because we want to help you become a better writer, we won't edit or proofread your paper for you. We will help you learn to revise and edit so you will be better able to catch your own errors and improve your own content, organization, and style.
Get response to your papers by email--
If you can't get to our locations when we're open, you can now get feedback on your writing by email. We won't proofread your paper for you by email. If certain aspects of punctuation or grammar are concerns for you, we can look at them: But we will only mark and explain the errors in a sample portion of your paper so you can learn to find the rest of them on your own. Ideally, getting feedback on clarity of purpose, organization, and support should come before you move on to proofreading concerns.
Instructions for email appointments--
First:
Schedule an appointment through our online scheduler (http://www.wku.edu/advising/index.php?page=about-tutortrac) for the time you'd like to receive your response. (The response will be emailed to you at the end of the hour for the appointment time you've chosen). Please state on your appointment reservation that you want to receive your response by email.
Then:
Email an attachment of your paper--at least 24 hours before the appointment time you've chosen so the tutor has time to read your paper--(in MSword or Rich Text format) to writingcenter@wku.edu with answers to the following questions:
1. Please tell us your name, student ID#, course, instructor, and due date for the project.
2. What is the assignment you're working on? The more specific you can be, the better.
3. Tell us one or two areas you would like us to help you with. Be as specific as you can.
Please note:
If you don't supply the answers to these questions along with your paper at least 24 hours before your selected appointment, the tutor will ask for this information. We may have to cancel your appointment if we don't receive the paper and accompanying information in time.
