Students who complete the Minor in Film Studies will gain a strong foundation in media literacy, including the ability to critically analyze and evaluate a visual text; knowledge of important aspects of the film industry; and an appreciation of the diverse uses of film across different times, cultures, and contexts.

Students who complete this minor will be better qualified for graduate study in a variety of fields such as Broadcasting, Film Studies, Fine Arts, and English, and for employment opportunities in film review, in writing for media magazines and entertainment programs, and in other aspects of media production.

The Film Studies Minor is open to any WKU student whose major allows a minor. However, a Broadcasting and Mass Communication major may choose the Film Studies Minor only as a second minor; the students' first minor must be outside the school of Journalism and Broadcasting.

WKU also has an official student-run film club.
