Curriculum

The English Department has a large and diverse curriculum that allows our students to pursue a variety of interests, including literature, creative writing, professional writing, linguisitcs, composition and rhetoric, teaching English as a second language, and film.

We offer courses that allow students to complete the following programs:



In addition to traditional literature classes such as Shakespeare, Chaucer, American Poetry, and Southern Literature, we have courses that reflect the diverse interests of our eclectic student body, including African-American Literature, Gay and Lesbian Literature, Documentary Film, Japanese Cinema in Translation, and Women's Fiction. Alongside traditional writing classes such as Poetry and Fiction, we offer Creative Nonfiction, Writing Memoir & Autobiography, and Editing & Publishing.
