The Western Kentucky University Costume Shop is situated on the third floor of The Ivan Wilson Center for Fine Arts. The space consists of three rooms: the main shop, an office with meeting and fitting areas, and a laundry and craft room.
The main costume shop is equipped with eight domestic and one industrial Bernina sewing machines, three domestic overlock machines, and an industrial iron. The ironing table and both cutting tables measure 4'x8' and have anti-fatigue mats on either side. The dress forms in the shop range in size from 6-20 female and 38-50 male. The room also contains a hand sewing area, a supply cabinet, and four large storage cabinets for class and show supplies.
The costume shop office is adjacent to the main shop and contains the shop supervisor's office area, a student designer desk, a student computer equipped with Microsoft Office and Internet access, a meeting area, and the fitting room. This space also holds eight large storage cabinets containing shop supplies, fabric, and garments for current shows.
Located behind the costume shop is the craft room and laundry area. This room contains two washing machines (one for dye projects, one for laundry), one dryer, a dye vat with a recently installed ventilation hood, and a small work area. The shelving and cabinet contain laundry, wardrobe, dye, craft, and safety supplies. All flammable supplies are stored in the departmental Flammables Cabinet located in the prop shop. Material Safety Data Sheets for all substances in the costume shop are also located in this area.
Costume Storage is located on the second floor of Gordon Wilson Hall. The two main rooms in the storage area are divided between twentieth century and dance wear, and period costume. Each room contains two tiered hanging racks and shelving units for boxed items. Additional areas house shoes, hats, period undergarments, wigs and accessories, and special storage for vintage garments.
This theatre with a proscenium stage is located on the second floor of The Ivan Wilson Center for the Fine Arts and accommodates 296 audience members.
Located in Gordon Wilson Hall, this black box theatre can be arranged in multiple configurations and seats between 134 and 168 audience members.
The design studio is located on the first floor of Ivan Wilson Center for the Fine Arts and is used for most design courses in the department of theatre and dance.
The computers in this lab are a mix of PCs and Macs, and all are equipped with Vector Works and Photoshop as well as word processing and internet capabilities.
