Bob Shrader began his career in TV as an Army combat still and TV
photographer in 1979. After a tour with the U.S. Army he went to work
for the Washington, D.C. bureau of CNN. While at CNN he covered the
White House, Capitol Hill, Supreme Court of The United States and the
Department of Defense.
“I covered every major story, from the Iran-Contra scandal to the
Impeachment of President Clinton. I am particularly proud to have been
a pioneer of the Dept. of Defense media pool program. I trained with the
DOD on many deployments and was selected due to my active duty military
training,” Shrader said of his time working in Washington, D.C.
In 2000, he left CNN and moved to Nashville, where he helped build and
launch the news department at the Nashville Fox affiliate, where he remains
today as chief photographer.
Since arriving in Nashville he has covered every major story including
embedding with the 101st Airborne as they invaded Afghanistan on their
way to Kandahar in January of 2002. Once there, the 101st took over for
the Marines in guarding Taliban prisoners at the Kandahar Airport and
maintaining U.S. control of the airport. WZTV-TV (FOX 17) in Nashville
was one of the first local television stations in the United States to send local
reporters to Afghanistan to cover the War on Terrorism. In 2003 he again
embedded with the 101st Airborne Division for the invasion of Iraq.
“In my 30 plus years in TV, I have traveled the world and met many
people, but none more interesting than those right here at home,” Shrader
said.
