VideoPAD HelpImage of MotionPAD with parts labeled

VideoPAD is an interactive Java applet for carrying out simple video analysis.  In normal operation, clicking on the image will record a point at that position and at that point in time.  The video clip will then advance one frame automatically, so you can click on it and place a marker indicating the position of the particular object at the next time.  The time bar can be used to move forward and backward in time.  If you are experiencing problems with java (e.g. you get an empty or grey box instead of the applet), here are some tips for resolving problems with java.

Viewing motion: Click on the "Play" button or drag the handle on the time bar from left to right.  If the handle is all the way to the right, you will need to move it to left or press CONTROL-R to reset it.  You may also advance or back up the animation one step at a time with the forward and back time steps at the respective ends of the time bar.

Recording a motion: Click on the object who's motion you are analyzing.  The position will be marked for that frame and the clip will advance one frame (unless "Advance Time" is unchecked).

Adjusting a previous point: If you need to adjust the position of a particular point, go to that particular frame using the time bar.  The current point will be indicated by a slightly different marker (usually black instead of gray).  Uncheck the "Advance Time" box and then click-drag the marker to the correct position.

Controls

These additional controls may or may not be available for a particular exercise.

Grade: evaluates the current state of the drawing against internal information about what is correct.  With VideoPAD, this usually checks that you have marked enough frames and have followed the motion of the correct objects sufficiently.

Reset: returns the applet to its initial condition.
