STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
April Student Spotlight, Zack Ward
What inspired you to seek a college education?
I am the first from a rather large, extended family to attend college. I grew up seeing the plights and hardships that occurred in some family members' lives as a direct result of not being educated. I realized early on that if I wanted to be successful in life, I had to get an education. Educating yourself is the best investment you will ever make for yourself- hands down.
What would you say your motivation for succeeding is?
I have a few. I had a bachelor's degree, but realized that if I wanted to keep competitive in today's job market- a Master's degree would do just that. Further, and more importantly, I am blessed with a beautiful wife. She motivates me. She never backs down if I ask her to proof read a paper. She understands if I have to cut something short because I have homework. She is awesome.
What is your academic major or area of study, and what are some of your possible career goals?
I am seeking a Master's of Public Administration degree. As an undergrad student, I was really drawn to political science. The MPA is a versatile degree which prepares you for management in various forms of government as well as other sectors. It seemed like a no brainer.
In as many words as you would like, please tell us a little about yourself.
My wife and I are expecting our first child in just a few weeks. Needless to say, preparing for the arrival constitutes much- if not all of my time. Any free time I do have, I love to spend outside. Fishing, working in the yard, and sports are right up my alley.
