Distance Learning is an exciting and continually developing field. The purpose of this orientation is to help you understand what distance learning is and how Western Kentucky University makes distance learning accessible to you.

What is Distance Learning? Broadly, this term means that the learning process takes place at a distance, through technologically mediated communication, instead of face-to-face communication. There are different ways of content delivery that are considered Distance Learning. At Western, the main forms of course delivery are:

Paper based (documents sent by email sometimes): from Correspondence Study.

Web based: from Kentucky Virtual University (KYUV) and WKU online courses.

Videoconference based: from Interactive Video Services (IVS).

Broadcasting Television based:  from Kentucky Educational Services (KET).

Blended Courses: from WKU, mainly face to face with an online component.
