Online Master Degree Programs
Master of Arts in Education in Adult Education
This program is designed for students who wish to do advanced study of education or behavioral sciences but whose career goals are not addressed by existing programs. Completion of this program does not lead to initial or advanced certification by Kentucky’s Education Professional Standards Board, nor does it lead to certification or licensure in counseling or psychology.
Master of Arts in Elementary Education (SPRING 2009 is the last semester to apply!)
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers programs that are specifically designed for the professional development of teachers and school leaders. These programs encompass the preservice, inservice, and continuing education and serve to develop positive attitudes toward the profession of teaching, skills in specific areas, and skills and techniques necessary for continuous professional growth. This degree does not lead to initial certification. Special Note to WKU Graduates: If you are a WKU graduate of the Elementary Education program, you are not required to take the GRE for admission.
Master of Arts in Exceptional Education
Exceptional Education is a program area in the Department of Special Instructional Programs within the College of Education & Behavioral Sciences. Graduates in the area of Exceptional Education continue the tradition of excellence with their high levels of preparation and dedication to the profession. In recent years, students have held leadership positions at the local, state, and national levels in the professional organization, Student Council for Exceptional Children.
Master of Arts in History
This program is designed to prepare students for the teaching of history on the junior and senior college level; to provide the initial graduate work for those who intend to pursue a doctoral degree; and to enhance the preparation of secondary teachers of history who desire to meet certification requirements through such a program. The online M.A. option is a three year program.
Master of Arts in Mathematics (Math Education)
The Department of Mathematics offers the Master of Arts (M.A.) degree. The M.A. degree is designed for secondary teachers and includes courses that will help them become more knowledgeable about the mathematics they teach in high school and the connections and extensions of that knowledge to college and higher mathematics.
Master of Business Administration (MBA)
The online MBA is an interdisciplinary program that provides professional education for successful careers in management. The program emphasizes accounting, computer information systems, economics, finance, management and marketing as the major focus. Students take a core area of courses and then choose electives that best suit their individual needs.
The eMBA, or electronic MBA, offers all course work in an online, on-demand format. This delivery method is best suited for students who are already actively engaged in their profession and require the flexibility of work anywhere, anytime. Working professionals with substantial professional experience of five or more years receive preferential status in the eMBA admission process.
Master of Science in Biology
Admission requires undergraduate preparation consistent with that required of undergraduate biology majors at Western Kentucky University. Based upon the advice or the student's graduate committee, she/he may be required to take appropriate course(s) as deficiencies if the student does not have an adequate background in biology.
Master of Science in Communication Disorders
This program is designed to prepare professional speech pathologists to meet the needs of the communicatively handicapped in hospitals, clinics, nursing facilities, and schools. It is also
designed to meet the academic and clinical requirements of the American Speech Language and
Hearing Association, leading to national certification and state licensure.
Master of Science in Library Media Education
The Master of Science degree in Library Media Education is a dual track program in information service and educational technology. It may be used for the Kentucky Rank II or Rank I pay status. The degree prepares persons for service as library media specialists, training development specialists, educational technology specialists, and information service specialists in schools, colleges, public libraries, and private organizations.
Master of Science in Physical Education
The program has two concentrations: Physical Education Teacher Education, which focuses on teaching Physical Education, and Exercise Science, which focuses on the scientific bases of exercise and human performance. Both of these concentrations will meet the Kentucky Teacher Requirements for Advanced Teaching Standards.
Master of Science Technology Management
The Master of Science in Technology Management develops leaders to support the needs of the modern world-wide industry. The curriculum enhances both career and personal objectives. Graduates of the program are equipped to manage organization resources, lead technological change, and strategically integrate higher level knowledge within their companies.
