Admission Criteria

In order to take an online course, you must first be admitted to the university. Students can apply online at www.wku.edu/admissions.html. Additional materials are required. Please refer to the information below.

Beginning Freshman: If you have not attended a college or university after high school graduation you will apply as a beginning freshman. Records Needed: An official high school transcript (no faxed transcripts accepted) and ACT or SAT scores. Note: Students over 21 years of age may take the ACCUPLACER in lieu of the ACT exam. For more information or to schedule the ACCUPLACER exam call 270-780-2550.

Readmit Students: A Readmit student is a student who previously attended Western Kentucky University and has not attended for two or more semesters and now wishes to return. Students meeting this criteria must apply for readmission to WKU.

Transfer Students: You will apply as a transfer student if you have attended one or more colleges or universities since high school graduation, but have not attended WKU. Records Needed: An official transcript from each college attended (No faxed transcripts are accepted. Transcripts without the official seal or those marked unofficial cannot be used). If you have fewer than 24 semester hours of college credit earned, you must also submit your high school transcript and ACT or SAT scores.

Visiting Students: Students seeking a degree from another college and wish to attend WKU for one term only should apply as visiting. Records Needed: Transient permission form (This form will be sent to you by the Office of Admissions upon receipt of the application and processing fee) or a letter of good standing from your home institution.

Graduate Students:  If you wish to earn a graduate degree you must submit the following materials, in addition to the application: official undergraduate transcripts, official GRE scores and a copy of your current teaching certificate when applicable. The application and all supporting materials need to be received in Graduate Studies by the dates listed below to ensure adequate time for departmental review. Learn more at http://www.wku.edu/graduate.

Independent Learning Students: Admission to the University is not required.
