"There are several ways WKU alumni of color and other affinity groups can contribute to the increased numbers of under-represented students reaching degree completion. Alumni should be willing to reach back and pull students forward (i.e. mentorship). Alumni should encourage students to be active on campus, join organizations and participate in community service. The alumni should inform the students about the importance of having a since of belonging at WKU (i.e. by build a community among students and alumni). I believe it is important to build relationships that can lead to networking opportunities, inclusive community and fundraising for retention initiatives leading to degree completion. I challenge our alumni to share their experiences at WKU, both good and bad, and the roles those experiences played in their ultimate success – degree completion."

The Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion (OIDI) are committed to the reclamation of African American alumni, alumni of color, LGBT alumni, latino/latina alumni, and other affinity groups. OIDI in partnership with Western Kentucky University's (WKU) Society of African American Alumni and Development and Alumni Relations will host alumni networking receptions. The Alumni networking receptions will offer OIDI and other WKU constituents an opportunity to engage in discussions regarding OIDI initiatives. In addition, alumni will learn about university programs and events that afford alumni opportunities to engage in the process of increasing student success and degree completion among under-represented students.
