Welcome from the Dean
Dr. Cheryl Stevens
Ogden College of Science & Engineering continues to grow, along with the opportunities for Ogden students to become engaged in meeting real-world challenges, both here and abroad. From Agriculture to Zoology, students gain hands-on experience under the supervision of Ogden College faculty mentors. Students have helped meet challenges from elephant damage in Kenya, Africa and water and air quality challenges in China. Our Cyber-Defense Laboratory helps develop ways to counter hacking attempts by other countries into military computer systems. The Mesonet, a real-time weather network with 62 stations across the Commonwealth, supplies weather data to three state agencies, to TV broadcasting stations, the National Weather Service, and many other constituents as part of the Kentucky Climate Center. A prototyping facility and automated robotics manufacturing cell make it possible for students to interact with industry on projects at the cutting edge of technology. These are just a few of the exciting ongoing projects waiting for our students. These opportunities, coupled with partnerships with local industry and high-tech start-up companies at the WKU Center for Research and Development, make Ogden College of Science & Engineering an exciting place to be.
This rich academic environment has helped students reach their potential for success. In just the last five years, twelve students have been recognized with prestigious Barry M. Goldwater scholarships, three with Mo Udall scholarships, and one student was awarded a National Science Foundation Pre-doctoral Fellowship to attend University of California at Berkeley. A record number of students have been accepted into medical and pharmacy schools. A large number of the seats at Auburn University Veterinary School sponsored by the Kentucky legislature continue to go to our students. Ogden College of Science & Engineering is proud that many of our students continue their education at select graduate schools around the country at a rate well above the national average. Our students are truly nationally and globally competitive. We hope you will inquire further and join the excitement.
