Jeremy Evans - Artist

When WKU Senior Forward Jeremy Evans isn’t playing basketball…he’s pursuing another passion.

Amy Bingham explains in this week’s “View from the Hill.”

Jeremy Evans may seem shy and soft spoken….but don’t let him fool you.  There is something besides

Jeremy Evans has a passion for basketball.

He also has a passion for painting.

“Having the joy to do this and do that…just taking it on the court and then into my painting.”

It’s something Evans has done since almost as far back as he can remember.

“Probably since I’ve been in kindergarten…. drew in class …a lot of  people still tell me now that they remember me drawing when I was little.”

Jeremy  has a theory about where his ability came from….

“I guess I’m a really competitive person cause you know my classmates could draw, some of  them, and I just wanted to beat the next person in whatever I was doing.”

Using oil paint, pastels and charcoals---Evans primarily paints landscapes and celebrity portraits he gets off the internet.

One of his favorites is of his idol, Michael Jordan.

“I worked really hard on that one you know he’s a big figure in sports.  I always looked up to Michael Jordan…think I did a good job I just love that one.”

Another favorite…a portrait of himself in a WKU uniform.

While being recruited to WKU  to play basketball….Evans was so serious about his art that he asked about the university’s art program.

He says it’s been the perfect place to pursue his two passions.

“ As long as I had somewhere I could play basketball and draw and paint…I was comin.”

Evans is an Interdisciplinary studies major with a concentration in art.  He graduates in May and plans to pursue a basketball career as long as possible, then make a living as a professional artist.

With this week’s View from the Hill, I’m Amy Bingham.
